Welcome to fait maison, welcome home.

When my husband and I moved into our new home last month, we invited our neighbors over for dinner. He made a hearty pot of spaghetti bolognese while I made a simple loaf of country bread accompanied by a brown-butter spread. When our bread-loving, French-speaking neighbors showed up, they exclaimed ‘Wow, this bread is fait maison!Fait maison (say: faye may-zong), I learnt that night, is French for homemade.

Since then, those two lil French words took root and grew in the fertile soil of my imagination. Perhaps that can be the name of the blog I’ve been procrastinating about, where I share my favorite recipes, tips and tricks I’ve learnt from pastry school. After all, those two words perfectly embody my training in classic French pastry and my philosophy, practice and love of “from-scratch” artisanal baking. I believe that the best things in life take time and love. And it is at home, where time is never a commodity. It is at home, where love is never a luxury.

So here we stand, at the doorway to an exciting journey… a journey home. Through this blog, I hope you will be inspired to create your very own little slice of heaven in your home kitchen. It may sound daunting now, but I promise to keep things simple and share as much information as I can to help you make delicious, homemade treats for you and your family.
